Five weeks is a lot of time to discover a place, but it’s very less for
a place like Shivajinagar. At my first look at the place, it seemed congested,
dirty and bustling with energy. Everyone around seemed to have a definite
purpose and goal, and they didn’t want to waste a second trying to get what
they wanted. It didn’t seem too
difficult at first, however I soon realized there were more layers to
Shivajinagar than what met the eye. Shivajinagar has its own share of secrets
and mystery, which takes a considerable amount of time to uncover.
During the first project, I was looking for stories unfolding Old
Bangalore and how Shivajinagar played its role in the city a couple of decades
ago. In all that frenzy, it was very difficult to find people who would be
willing to share information and we really had to improve on our communication
skills to be able to have a fruitful conversation with people and gather
information. I was interested in
bringing a fictional aspect to the history of shivajinagar so we started mixing
fiction with non-fiction and developing a story.
Shivajinagar is a very colourful area and is a great place to
photograph. In addition to pictures, having conversations with the local people
is also a great way to learn more about the area. There are a lot of
interesting people who have great stories so I would like to use their
participation as one of the main methods to introduce the area during the walk.
