Spontaneous expansion.

Informal cities is a brilliant attempt to come up with investigative ways of urban growth. Informal cities are developing everywhere around us. Today, they are a huge part of our lives because we rely on them for our needs.
Unplanned growth is a bad term politically but a benefit for some. It brings in a lot of convenience. And more importantly, it's a self sustained and independent community in itself. Even though it's illegal and might act as a barrier according to laws, it's a very resourceful encroachment.

I see Shivaji Nagar as an informal city because of several reasons. The road stalls, thelas etc. have now become the highlights of the place. On taking a closer look, you will realize that the stuff sold by the road is better than what you get in proper shops. Road side shops are filled with talent and invention right from the kind of earrings to the footwear! Shivaji Nagar is a self sustained area where any thing you name will be available. They say "If you don't find it in Shivaji Nagar, it doesn't exist". It's the google of shopping world! People from various areas come here to buy quality products at cheaper rates!

It's a semi-urban area with a rich cultural background and is home to all kinds of people. Here, you don't see the spaces as encroached, you view them as utilized. Every illegally taken-over spot fills stomachs, produces art and attracts crowds. Road shopping has always been THE thing amongst people, especially teenagers. It caters to all your shopping, monumental, ancient, aesthetic and food cravings!
