Informal City
An informal city is a self-sustained city with a certain amount of dependence on other cities but different from them. The aim of the cluster, Urbanism & The Informal City research cluster, launched in October 2009 by Jorge Fiori, Elena Pascolo and Alex Warnock-Smith, is to explore the concept of the ‘informal’ as a parallel modality that shapes the urban condition.
Shivajinagar, in a way, can be looked as an informal city. It has such a huge crowd dwelling in it. People, living in Shivajinagar, tend mostly not to come out of Shivajinagar as they now consider it as a self sustained area where people of different communities live together, serving to each others needs. Such a large market area, with so many varieties of shops, all make Shivajinagar, a self dependent area.
