Two Cities

The two articles tell us the story of how a city is formed.  The city is represented by the people and it exists for the people. It is their ideas and their perception that makes it grow and develop. An interesting fact is that the two articles talk about two different cities i.e. Bombay and Lima; however, as you keep reading you realise that they have much in common. They talk about moral issues, transgressions in society, taboos and norms of society.
The author Gyan Prakash talks about Bombay in different intervals of time and different aspects of the city, such as the culture, heritage, cinema and politics. We are able to see what drives the city to its limits. It gives us an understanding about how the architecture and structure of a place is secondary. The primary aspect of the city is the people and their stories, their lives, their memories and experiences.
