An informal city is a city that is separate from others
cities and is self sustained. It does depend on other cities to a certain
extent but is certainly different from them.
Shivaji Nagar can be considered to be an informal city to a
certain extent. It has houses scattered in different parts of Shivaji Nagar,
shops in almost every single corner of Shivaji Nagar, and people surviving off
all their daily needs in the several markets. The people that live in Shivaji
Nagar tend not to leave the place as they find everything they could possibly
need in the market itself. Shivaji Nagar
in a way could be the “city centre” of Bangalore. You can find almost anything
you want there. Also, it is the hub for amateur photographers these days. It is
a city undiscovered, and unlike most.
Shivaji Nagar is rich in culture. It supports three very
prominent religious communities; Hindus, Muslims, and Christians. Although
these communities do have their differences, for the most unlike most cities,
they live in harmony.
These informal communities or cities are a big influence culturally,
politically and economically and therefore are a very important part of the
society.
