A Tourist's Perspective
This had been the first time I had visited Shivajinagar. The only other time I had gone there was either to catch a bus or switch buses. I have to say that this experience has been an enlightening one in many ways. To me, Shivajinagar was always just a really crowded market place where people came to shop whole sale. I never imagined the kind of culture and heritage the place possessed.
From a tourist’s perspective, I would like to say that the Shivajinagar is one of the most welcoming cities I have come across. Everyone is so cheerful and happy to help. I didn’t feel any sense of hostility when I was there. It was a wonderful experience walking through the market. The streets were busy with the noises of the auto rickshaws, the vendors selling their freshly made food items, people selling juice, men on bikes, women selling handicrafts on the footpath. This was a wonderful site to see. So much was going on in such a small space.
It is said that it is a city within a city. This is true in many ways. The place and the people are so self-sustaining. They make it possible to cater to their needs within their location. Everything you could possibly need from household items to utensils to spare parts to groceries can be met there. All this at a reasonable rate too. This makes it hard for many to find reasons to move out of Shivajinagar. Another thing I notices was that, It seemed like the people there didn’t waste a minute of their time. The kind of hard work and effort being out into work is rare to find today.
The city of Shivajinagar is a beautiful one, full of life and stories. It is nice to see that even tho so much has changed over the years, the essence of the place still remains.
